If you and your buddies are looking for something straightforward and intense, try a Tabata-style workout. Tabata is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) method that involves alternating 20 seconds of full-on activity with 10 seconds of rest. Pick four exercises - for example, burpees, jumping jacks, mountain climbers and squats - and do each one for 20 seconds before having a 10 second break. Repeat this until you’ve done all four exercises, and then take a two-minute break and start again.
If you’re looking for something a bit more creative and challenging, try using a combination of bodyweight exercises and equipment like kettlebells and TRX bands. For instance, create a circuit that includes ten reps of kettlebell squats and swings, followed by 10 alternating knee-ups on the TRX and 10 tricep dips. Aim to complete the whole round in under two minutes and repeat the entire circuit three times. This type of routine is great for building strength and cardio endurance.
You could also create a circuit that uses a combination of classic exercises for a full-body burn. Start your group of 3 off with 10 jumping lunges, followed by 10 push-ups and 10 squats, then rest for 30 seconds before repeating. If you want to mix it up even more, add in different elements such as core exercises, medicine ball throws and Battle Ropes.
