Schematic diagrams are used to represent the electrical circuitry of a system or device. The schematic diagram also shows how electricity flows through the system and different currents are heading in different directions. Schematic diagrams are generally used for designing and troubleshooting electrical circuits.

P&ID stands for Process and Instrumentation Diagram. It's a detailed diagram that shows the process flow for a system. It includes pumps, valves, vessels, instruments and other equipment with the piping and instrumentation needed to connect them. It typically includes the inputs (the resources needed to complete the process, like water) and the outputs of the system (the products produced). P&IDs are essential for chemical engineering, power plants and oil refineries, since they help to ensure efficient operation.

Although similar in nature, there are some key differences between schematic diagrams and P&IDs. While schematic diagrams describes the electrical circuit of a system, P&IDs are focused on the components themselves, their functions, and how they interact within the system. P&IDs provide a more comprehensive view of the system compared to schematic diagrams. They also explain how the parts work together and how they affect each other when the system is running. On the other hand, schematic diagrams only show the connections between the components and don’t provide information on the functioning of the system.

To put it simply, schematic diagrams show how the electrical components in a system are connected, while P&IDs are used to show the interaction between the components in a system with the help of piping and instrumentation. Both are invaluable tools for many fields, and understanding their differences can help any engineer or technician better understand the complexities of a system.
