Make Your Own Circuit Training Workout

By | January 17, 2023

Circuit training is an effective, full-body workout routine that allows for fast-paced and intense physical activity. It combines strength and aerobic exercises to help you burn fat and build muscle in a short amount of time. Creating your own circuit training workout can be beneficial in terms of keeping workouts motivating and fresh.

Think of a circuit as a series of stations that you move through, completing a set number of repetitions or time at each station. Start by selecting the exercises you would like to include in your circuit. Choose exercises that focus on different muscle groups and movement patterns. For example, you could choose squats, push-ups, jump lunges, burpees, mountain climbers, and planks. Make sure to include exercises that challenge your cardiovascular endurance as well, such as jumping jacks or running in place.

Once you’ve selected your exercises, determine how much time or how many repetitions you will do at each station. Generally, 30 – 45 seconds is a good place to start. This length of time works well because it’s long enough to get your heart rate up but short enough that you don’t burn out on a single exercise. If you have limited time, you can shorten the amount of time per exercise or reduce the number of stations.

Though it can be tempting to just jump right in and start doing the exercises, having a dynamic warm up before the circuit is key. Doing dynamic stretches such as leg swings, hip circles, and arm circles for 3-5 minutes will help you warm up the muscles and prepare your body for the exercises ahead.

Finally, take time after the circuit to cool down with some static stretches. This will help your body recover from the exercises you just completed, making it less likely you’ll feel sore the next day.

Creating a circuit training workout that works for you can help you reach your fitness goals in an efficient and enjoyable way. By selecting exercises that challenge you, ensuring dynamic warm-up and cool-down, and setting realistic goals for yourself, you’re already on your way to success. So, grab a timer, pick your exercises, and get ready to crush it!
