To start, let’s talk a bit about what a diode is. A diode is a semiconducting device, meaning it has the ability to control current flow in one direction, while blocking it in the opposite direction. This makes them incredibly useful in many different circuits. They are also often used for rectifying AC voltage into DC voltage which is why they are so commonly found in power supplies.

The diode works by allowing current to flow from its anode to cathode, but not from its cathode to anode. This means that when a positive voltage is applied to the anode, current will be able to flow through the circuit. If the the positive voltage is removed, the current will no longer flow and the circuit will be protected.

When connected between two logic gates, the diode will only allow current to flow when the voltage across the diode is greater than zero. This is known as a diode-logic circuit and it is commonly used in computers and other electronic devices.
