'We Lived'

Right now is a great time for British music, and the five young guys in Francesqa only work to prove that further. With the release of their debut EP, 'We Lived', we see the band move strongly forward from their previous material into the realms of massive choruses and a confident sound. After only being a band for little over a year, their songs are almost remarkable; they sound completely established and genuine, allowing for the listener to instantly connect with them.

Opening with the incredibly catchy and wonderfully constructed 'Ghosts', the band showcase their talent for creating big sounding pop-rock songs, that still resonate with a certain realistic quality. Throughout 'We Lived', the cleverly-written pop hooks are balanced with edgier guitar riffs, and the band's lyrics are eloquent; their subjects standing as more than those you might come to expect of a young pop-rock group.

Second track 'Hopeful' executes this perfectly; its heavy bassline accompanying the soaring vocals and delicate guitars well. 'Years' delves further into the experimental, and navigates itself to an interesting outro, whilst 'Crooked Little Sun' mixes gritty instrumentation with Ashley Wilkie's smooth voice. Drawing to an intimate close, title track 'We Lived' is both fragile and powerful, with its acoustic build up crashing into a massive, maybe even shiver-inducing, ending.

With an EP as strong and genuinely lovable as this, it's hard to think that Francesqa deserve anything less than the current praise surrounding them right now. They are definitely a band destined for great things.
