'Lies For The Liars'
Lies For The Liars is one of those albums that’s been a long time coming. After the release of ‘In Love And Death’ just under three years ago now, fans have been waiting eagerly for their third record and it seems as though the wait was worth it. The Used have never shied away from using, well, anything in an attempt to enhance their musical sound and this record is, again, no different. The combination of their creative styling, raw emotions and the experienced and trustworthy producer John Feldmann has brought them out on top once more with a fresh-sounding,, revenge-laced record that, for the most part, simmers with tension and anger. However, it is not without it’s more sincere and touching side; ’Find A Way’ and ‘Smother Me’ almost being on par with the older track ‘On My Own’ in it’s subtle and more melodic tones. ![]() Yet, almost expectantly, there’s still that unbelievable angst and hatred reflected through the lyrics vocalist Bert McCracken screams in his trademark growls, which we have all grown to love over the past six years. The only criticism we can give to this album is that some of the lyrics may appear to be on the more immature side, but, after all, there’s no better way to say it than the old cliché of ‘liar, liar, pants on fire. This album is a wonderfully produced work that the band should be proud of, and it showcases the talent that the band truly bear, whilst also managing to manipulate our ideas of the traditional ‘screamo’ band with the single ‘The Bird And The Worm’s utterly gorgeous use of strings. There’s no way in hell that you shouldn’t own this record this summer. |
