Dallas Green: Not just a city and colour.
When the subject of Alexisonfire is brought up, an instant image of sweat-soaked pits and the harsh screaming of George Pettit probably pops into your head. However, it is the lesser known guitarist Dallas Green who has begun to take centre stage. His own acoustic side-project, City And Colour, represent fully the more melodic side of Alexisonfire's vocals. Dallas himself is one of the three vocalists for Alexisonfire and adds a beautiful contrast to the harsh hardcore growls of George; creating the unbelievable sound that is original in itself to the band. City And Colour are, however, far from that, enabling Dallas to showcase his true talent with just his voice and a guitar. The music that he has made so far is simple, yet utterly breathtaking and he is known for having one of the most wonderful voices within rock.
To brush off City And Colour as simply another boring acoustic band would probably be the biggest mistake you could make. From certain bands within today's scene of constant bombardment of inaudible screeches classed as singing, we seem to have lost that simple beauty that music is really based upon. Dallas is however, one of few artists keeping the acoustic guitar alive with his gorgeous melodies and raw lyrics. City And Colour itself is simply just Dallas. Back in 2005, after starting the project underground, he recorded his debut album 'Sometimes'. This was followed with a huge amount of success and several award nominations from the MuchMusic Awards as well as People's Choice, showing that beautiful music really is still appreciated today. Following that, he embarked upon a small tour around the UK, where he appeared at the tiny Barfly venues all around the country, giving small audiences a once in a lifetime performance. It has recently been announced that due to Dallas' ongoing Alexisonfire commitments, City And Colour are unable to tour as often as he would like, which has resulted in the compilation of several performances that will be released on a live CD/ DVD combination on March 26th. This simply means, there is no excuse not to listen to this beautiful man make beautiful music. |
